Boba (bubble tea) is all the rage these days, and for a good reason! This delicious, refreshing drink can be customized to suit any taste, and it’s the perfect pick-me-up for any time of day.
Whether you’re a boba enthusiast or just looking to get on the boba bandwagon, you will need some supplies. In this blog post, we’ll share which and where to buy boba straws and cups.
Straws and Cups
I’ll give a quick overview of straws and cups. Before we start, I like to point out that there are two things to consider before buying straws and cups:
- Sizes of cups and straws.
- Reusable or plastic straws and cups.
Let’s cover sizes first. It’s not a big deal if you don’t choose the correct cup size, but you definitely don’t want to slip with straws. That’s because if your tapioca pearls (boba) don’t come through your straw, you can’t enjoy the drink as you would like.
The tapioca pearl diameter is the most important thing to know when choosing straws.
When buying straws, you should take a closer look at measurements. Also, the difference between raw and cooked tapioca pearls must be considered. Usually, raw pearls’ diameter is approximately 0.32 inches (8 mm), and cooked boba’s diameter is around 0.4 inches (10 mm). And so are these tapioca pearls I like to use (see the picture below). So, the straw diameter should be at least 0.4 inches (10 mm).
A straw’s length isn’t as crucial as its diameter, but you still want to pay attention to that. The bubble tea straw should be at least 8 inches (20 cm) long. That’s because, typically, bubble tea cups have dome lids, and the straw should reach out from there.
A proper bubble tea straw should be at least 8 inches (20 cm) long and 0.4 inches (10 mm) wide. Now we know about the straw but still don’t know about cups. Let’s figure it out!
There are two things to think about when it comes to cups: the size of a cup and the shape of the lid. Typically bubble tea cups are 20 oz or 24 oz. That’s simply because smaller ones are too small and bigger ones are too big. Pretty obvious, right? The next question is about the lid – do you like it flat or dome?
If you ask me, I like the dome lid and 20 oz cup. For me, bubble tea should always have that dome lid, making it somehow special. My cup size preference just kind of happened. When I started making boba tea at home, I didn’t have cups other than 20 oz, so I started using these. I have tried 24 oz cups, they are excellent if you want to add a lot of ice, but they were too big for me.
Since living in the US, I love to order online, especially from Amazon. I’ll bring out some options from Amazon that I used and currently use. If you like more “physical shopping,” you can visit some Asian markets. They usually have a wide selection of the right items for bubble tea.
Where To Buy Plastic Boba Straws and Cups?
I used to use plastic straws and cups, but recently I moved to reusable ones, trying to think greener. But I bring out the ones I used.
I loved that 50-pack of 20 oz cups with dome lids (+ 50 straws). Unfortunately, they don’t have a 24 oz cup bundle with dome lids.
If you want your cups with flat lids, that 50-pack (+ 50 straws) from the same supplier is an excellent option. With these cups, you have multiple cup-size options as well.
If you would like to order some extras or cups and straws separately, these can be the perfect options for you:
These straws are wide enough, and the supplier has different color options so everyone can find their favorite.
This can be an excellent option for cups; it’s a 50-pack, and they have 20 oz and 24 oz cups (both with dome lids) available.
Where To Buy Reusable Boba Straws and Cups?
As said, I now use reusable straws and cups, so I’ll show which ones I use.

These are the reusable cups I use:
I also ordered these straws because I wanted some extras and curved straws:
If you’re looking for boba straws and cups, there are a few places you can check out. Most Asian markets will have a selection of different sizes and types of straws and bubble tea cups. You can also find these items online at sites like Amazon.
When choosing the right size boba straw, it really depends on the size of the tapioca pearls you’ll be using. If you’re not sure, it’s always best to err on the side of caution and go with a slightly larger diameter straw. This way, you won’t have to worry about the pearls getting stuck in the straw.
As for bubble tea cups, there are many different types and styles to choose from. A clear plastic cup is always a good choice if you are looking for something simple and functional. However, if you want to think green and something a little more stylish, many reusable cups with different designs and colors are available.
So, whether you’re looking for boba straws, cups, or both, you have plenty of options. Just be sure to take your time and choose the right size and style for your needs. With a little bit of effort, you’ll be able to find everything you need to enjoy delicious bubble tea at home.
